Dana Holtz, School Psychologist, Nationally Certified Counselor, Registered Play Therapist Supervisor, and certified Adlerian Play Therapist, incorporates the tenets of Play Therapy in her current setting, a K-8 Elementary School in Las Vegas, Nevada. Over the past 20 years, Dana has utilized play therapy with children, adults, and families in a variety of settings such as home-based therapy, community mental health, private practice, group foster home, and, of course, the school setting.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]
Description
Play is a child’s natural language. In the world of play therapy, mental health professionals use play to support children in their healing, skill-building, and processing of the world around them. The therapeutic powers of play help facilitate change for those who enter the playroom ~ adults and children alike.
This workshop will introduce participants to the world of play therapy through dynamic lecture and experiential activities. Counselors, Psychologists, School Counselors, Social Workers, and other Mental Health Professionals are invited to join us for a journey into the world of Play Therapy.
Learning Objectives
- Explain the difference between play therapy and traditional talk therapy
- List a minimum of five (5) therapeutic powers of play
- Describe several different theoretical orientations of play therapy
- Identify the five (5) suggested categories of toys to include in a playroom
